About the Project

Skin Kit Beauty is a skincare company that is partnered up with beauty brands, to create recommended and personalized skincare routine packages meant for every skin type. Whether you are new to skincare products or wish to have a routine, Skin Kit Beauty has got you covered. The idea behind this brand is to help all users find their own skincare routine, suitable for their skin type. Once they have found their routine, they have the liberty to either subscribe or purchase the product on their own within the app, website, or beauty stores that sell their product. This project was created in term 2 in BCIT as a fictitious made-up company created for my UI/ UX Strategy 1 course for a mobile app. This was then compiled together into a Case Study in Term 3 to showcase the process of the mobile app interface.

The Problem

Often users are too busy to take care of their skin or formulate a skincare routine. They are too busy doing other things, that they don't have time to research or learn ways to take care of their skin. In addition, many users get frustrated or overhwelmed just by seeing multiple products on shelves, and wishing there was a simple instruction.

The Solution

The app focuses on providing routines for all skin types, while offering users the incentive to either subscribe to a recommended routine or personalized routine package. Users will be able to purchase and edit their subscriptions within the mobile app. As well as, chat or talk to an advisor about their skincare issues. Once the user has suscribe to a package, they have the ability to edit their routine, or cancel their susbscription, or purchase full size products.

Competitor Analysis

competitor-analysis

After analyzing both website and mobile applications that focus on creating skincare routines. These are the most common problems

  • Too many questions, pages on the "take the quiz" onboarding screens
  • Requires the user to input their email address & postal code in order to get their routine package
  • The user doesn't have many options other then the one recommended product package
  • No customisable packages
  • Full size containers and expensive pricing
  • Must create an account to see results
  • On mobile app - most apps available provide skincare routines with recommendations, but no way to purchase directly on site

Challenges

  • Since this was my first UI/UX project, I had to learn how to quickly use Adobe XD by studying tutorials online
  • With a 2-3 week deadline to complete the first project, getting everything done on time was thrilling.
  • There were times, when I felt behind as it took longer to learn the basics, but I kept pushing through.
  • Designing an app and choosing an a color palette that was appealing and neutral was a challenge, as I didn't want the app to look chromatic.

What I learnt

  • To give your best, no matter the project
  • To ask questions, when google cannot solve your answers
  • To learn more tools outside the comfort of your own zone on what is normally taught in a lecture
  • To try out as many functions or features as possible and see how far you get
  • Feedback is important to see if your design works
  • Trying to accomplish too much, places contraints on what is important in a project
